The beat the city competitions are urban obstacle runs for men and women who are looking for a special sporting challenge. The runs take place directly in the city centers of Linz, Innsbruck and Graz. Thanks to at least 20 natural and artificial obstacles on the at least 10 km long course through the city center, variety is guaranteed. Sports, fun and city – these are the factors that make beat the city competitions a tough challenge. It’s not only endurance that counts here, but also strength, dexterity, mobility and cleverness.

Of course, there are also separate competitions for the youngest among you. For kids and teens between 8 and 15 years, there are Junior Athlons in the respective city. At a distance of about 2km, the youngest have to overcome about 8 obstacles.

Like for all sporting events the right gear is of great importance. Therefore, we gathered a few tips and tricks for your:

  • Shoes: Spikes and shoes with dobbs are not allowed! We recommend running shoes with a solid profile.
  • Clothing: Since we hope for good weather we would recommend some shorts and a t-shirt. Kneepads or a knee-lenght shorts could prevent you from abrasions.
  • Gloves: We recommend you to at least wear biking-gloves. It will be easier on some obstacles!

We suggest to use public transport.

INNSBRUCK
Museum or mountain? Cowbells or baroque sounds? Running shoes or high heels? In the Innsbruck region you are spoilt for choice! Here, the city and the mountains are so closely melded that sightseeing and the mountain experience almost go hand in hand. To get to the starting points of the numerous trails in the region, it’s best to use public transportation, which is included in the free Welcome Card guest card (available at partner establishments from 2 nights). And if a breather and running break is needed, Innsbruck’s cultural treasures and natural beauty can be explored by bus and train up and down the region with the Welcome Card. www.innsbruck.info

Your time is measured by means of a chip that can be attached to your foot.

The results will be published on this website one hour after the competition has finished.

We will award the three fastest men and women (i.e. only the three fastest, irrelevant from which age group), the three fastest teams (4 prizes each) in the men’s and mixed categories as well as the best women’s team and the fastest couple. Of course one of the Ultra-Athlon winners will be chosen.

The beat the city competitions are – despite the great sporting challenge – primarily about fun and togetherness. It is a matter of honour that every “athlon-athlete” makes every effort to overcome the obstacles regularly. All obstacles are to be conquered in the way that the race management intends. If you are not able to overcome an obstacle, have to walk around it, leave the course without permission or have to stop the race due to an injury, the athlon is not considered to have been conquered and you will not be included in the classification. Unfair and unsportsmanlike behaviour will be punished by exclusion from the race. The “making unrecognisable”, covering or tearing off the start number will lead to disqualification. The medical staff at the track is entitled to withdraw participants with signs of injury and/or exhaustion from the race at any time. The instructions of the track staff and the paramedics must be followed at all times.

Should you fail to overcome an obstacle, you are free to continue the race. However, you will be scored DNF.

We ask you to always behave like a real sportsmen and -women. If you see that someone needs your help at the obstacles or elsewhere, please help.

Targeted running and strength training with coordinative elements is the perfect preparation for the beat the city series. Run over sticks and stones in the forest or run down the track. Pull-ups and other strength exercises will not hurt either.

The exact route plans will follow.
